Tompkins County Re-Entry Initiative
In conjunction with the Tompkins County Department of Social Services, the Sheriff's Office, and the Department of Probation, OAR participates in the county Re-entry Project at the Tompkins County Jail. During this period, DSS staff and the Tompkins County Sheriff's Jail Coordinator conducts comprehensive intake screenings to identify potential re-entry clients. The Community Coordinator will assist clients to devise an individualized discharge plan that highlights both their strengths (i.e., family connections) and the community resources they plan to access - from mental health counseling to family mediation and educational opportunities. OAR staff will provide each client with a point of contact in the community in their post-release case management and assist them in accessing needed services, which usually entails making referrals to a network of county agencies and service providers.
